April 6: Oil Painting Experimental Class
Looking to hone your artistic skills beyond selecting the best Instagram filters? Contrary to what you may hear, it’s never too late to start. Come to the picturesque village of Xiaozhou in Haizhu District for a weekly class in oil painting and surround yourself with other ardent beginners. The classes will feature an instructor and set objective, but students can also opt to pursue their own projects. Bring your creativity and an open mind!

April 8-9: Cantonese Gaohu Master Yu Qiwei
Gaohu - a high-pitched ‘erhu’ that resembles a fiddle - is a traditional instrument with roots in Guangdong and can be heard in Cantonese and Teochew operas. Acclaimed as the third-generation successor of gaohu, Yu Qiwei is one of the most renowned musicians in the realm of Guangdong music. Founded in 1975, Yu’s quintet has entertained a generation with classical pieces throughout the past 40 years. Explore the region’s musical culture and get to know this unique string instrument up close.

April 9: National Theatre Live Shakespeare Series: Othello
Shakespeare’s celebrated tragedy Othello, which probes into the destructive power of jealousy, is set on the battlefield of Iraq with two Laurence Oliver Award-winning actors. Adrian Lester takes the title role while Rory Kinnear plays the duplicitous Iago. The Times called the two “superb” and praised the production as being “a breathtaking show of emotional firepower.” Come enjoy this gripping stage performance (on screen) while it’s in Guangzhou!

April 9-10: Tennis Experimental Class
Developing a new, healthy habit is always interesting, especially in the blooming season of spring. Picking up a new sport, however, is much easier if you’re surrounded by fellow peers of the same skill and interest level. For those who fancy tennis as a pastime, Yidao Sport offers experimental classes taught by professionals, no matter your skill level. April 10: Lei Minhong's Recital
Lei Minhong began his piano schooling at a young age, under the guidance of Argentinian musical master Roberto Caamaño. Lei moved to Argentina at a young age and, after finishing his training under Caamaño, later continued to study piano in both Europe and the US. Lei’s performances have been seen by audiences in famous concert halls in Asia, Europe and the Americas – where his talent is loudly applauded. Come to Xinghai Concert Hall this Sunday and revel in Lei Minhong’s graceful recital.
